At Soderquist's we are proud to
have been a part of this community since 1926. Back then, when Central
Avenue (Hwy. 65) was graded and graveled, a young man named Iver Soderquist
opened the Soderville General Store. It was located on the east side of
Central Avenue. Customers came to purchase everything from chicken feed to
denim overalls to farm machinery. If a customer wanted something that wasn't
in stock, it was written on a "want list" that hung from a string. It would
be purchased on the weekly trip to town and stocked for the customer. This
tradition of exceptional customer service continues today.
Iver Soderquist was one of four Soderquist
brothers to settle here with their family fromSweden. About a
year after the General Store opened, a cyclone took the roof off and Iver
didn't have the capital to rebuild. He offered a partnership to his brother
Albert in exchange for the use of his Model T and $200 cash.
We are now in our third building and the company is operated by Albert’s grandchildren,
Cheryl and Mark. Even though our buildings have changed over the last 80
years, our company's philosophy has remained the same. To offer high quality
products and be the very best in customer service our meat is still cut by
hand and our deli products are mostly made from scratch. And even though we
still carry on some of the older traditions like bagging your order, we also
offer the latest in organic products and offer online shopping.
Our friendly and
knowledgeable employees are one of the big reasons for our continued success
in this community. Stop in and see us or visit us online at
